Die grosse Wende in der Gewerkschaftsbewegung

Die grosse Wende in der Gewerkschaftsbewegung
Vasco Pedrina und Hans Schäppi

The late 1970s and 1980s were a difficult time for Swiss trade unions. Long years of economic crisis were accompanied by major changes in the world of industry and labour. More and more jobs in the industrial sector disappeared and many fell victim to automation and digitalisation. The 1990s finally heralded a turning point in the trade union movement. One example of this is the emergence of the Construction & Industry Union (GBI), which would later merge into UNIA. Two key figures in this change were Vasco Pedrina and Hans Schäppi. In this book, they take a look back at this time. In doing so, they provide fascinating insights and unknown backgrounds without refraining from criticism. An important aspect of their retrospective, which makes the book particularly exciting for our documentary film, is the description of the role of migrant trade unionists in the old and new trade unions.
