Between the end of the 19th and the end of the 20th century, five million Italians immigrated to Switzerland, contributing to the country's economic, social, political and cultural development, leaving their mark and integrating themselves into Switzerland like no other immigrant group. Each chapter of the book highlights an aspect of the phenomenon: from gastronomy to football, from construction and industry to the trade union movement, from school organisation to literature and film, from social conflicts to crime. Special attention is also paid to political movements, from the anarchists of the late 19th century to the outcasts of the fascist era.
