Proletarische Jugend Zürich

In 2017, the bonlieu cooperative for housing and culture in Zurich celebrates its 100th anniversary. Founded as Freie Jugend Uster, it soon changed its name to Proletarische Jugend Zürich. From the very beginning, it offered living and recreational space to young people. In 1928, the legendary Sihlfeld youth hostel in Zurich was inaugurated, which became an important meeting place for the European workers' movement and whose building with the “Café Boy” restaurant still belongs to the cooperative today. This book tells the story of the cooperative, its protagonists and the changes it has undergone over the past 100 years. A separate chapter is dedicated to its built manifesto, the building of the Sihlfeld workers' youth hostel, which it places in the overarching architectural and socio-historical framework.
