Research: stories of migration

Meeting people for the research of stories to give voice to in the documentary.
Life stories of hard work and sacrifices as emigrants in Switzerland in the 60s and 70s. It’s enlighting to hear the different life paths of these people.

Factory workers mother and daughter Maria (95) and Teresa (76). Teresa and her younger sister were very little when they were left in Italy by their parents. Maria, and her husband before her, emigrated to Switzerland to work and sustain their family.

 

Franco Narducci has been in Switzerland since 1970, seeing the life conditions of seasonal workers living in shacks, brought the urge in him to stand up for the conditions and rights of emigrants in Switzerland and therefore became an active trade unionist.

 

Gianni Di Mineo emigrated to Switzerland very young and has lived as a hidden child for a while. He did all kind of jobs to sustain his family. To keep himself busy while hidden at home, he learned cooking and cleaning. Seeing snow for the first time in his life, made him break the rule of staying hidden inside and go out to play.

 

Nunzio has been a seasonal worker, a painter, in Switzerland and before that an illegal child. He remembers living in in an attic room without a shower and having to pay 50 cents at public showers.
